Our name

Why we are called nkutu.

Just up the road from us, the Nkutu River carves its way through the gorges of Krantzkloof, between Kloof and Hillcrest.

It is not a river in a hurry. It bends and meanders, finds the low ground, slips over the Nkutu Falls and keeps going — patiently shaping the rock around it over thousands of years. Further down, it meets the Molweni and the two become one, flowing on together to the uMngeni and the sea.

Your health is the same kind of journey. It is rarely a straight line. There are bends and dry seasons and steep descents, and the work is not done in one dramatic moment — it is done steadily, visit by visit, choice by choice.

We took the river’s name because that is how we believe care should work: close to home, unhurried, always moving you forward, and stronger when we travel it together.

You know the price before you walk in. Pay by cash or card on the day. If you want to claim from your medical aid, we hand you a proper invoice and receipt to claim back yourself — we just don’t do the billing for you.

Jay has spent his career where medicine meets the real world. Years on the front line of emergency medicine taught him to make clear decisions quickly, treat what matters, and never lose sight of the person in front of him — the same instinct that drives walk-in primary care.

That emergency grounding sits alongside a deep commitment to everyday primary care, a public-health view of why people fall ill in the first place, and years spent in health management education teaching the next generation of clinicians and managers.
